A Digital Painting?

Gina King creates her Fine Art & Illustrations mainly with Acrylic Paints.
Recently She began to experiment with digital painting.
Here you will find the progress of Gina's first Digital Pinup Painting.

Step1 Sketch
Step one: The Sketch.

I decided to work from a photo of Bianca for this experiment. The original photo is by photographer Peter Czerich from Marquis Magazine. I have made a few changes to the outfit and accessories by adding in lots of blingy jewels, and you will see later that the latex dress will be a different color.

Back to step one: I create the sketch with pencil & paper and then scan it into the computer.

Digital Step 2Step two: Wacom Tablet

I always love trying something new. So, I got my hands on a Wacom tablet. This is a wonderful device that allows you to "paint" with a digital pen instead of a mouse.

I will be working in Photoshop CS4. To start painting, I add a new layer on top of my sketch and startin with the large blocks of color.

One advantage I'm seeing about working digitally is that the first stages of a painting are much faster. (no mixing of colors or cutting out masking film)

BBDigital3Step 3:

I have been having fun painting in the hair. I add in a darker shade of red.

The darker hair color makes the skintones appear much lighter than they did in steps 1 and 2.

I also add in a bit of black to her outfit.

BBDigital4 Step 4:

I spend a little more time building up the hair color. I also decide that the lipstick color needs to be a deeper shade of red.

Now I'm starting to add in some of the darker shadows to skin.

More will be posted soon.
